Weather Standards

PYA follows STLWEST standards for lightning, heat, and cold. Umpires may pause for immediate safety concerns and should contact UIC/board support.

Incident Escalation

Escalation chain: Plate Umpire → Field Umpire → UIC → Board Member. All warnings and incidents must be documented.

Reporting & Payroll Verification

Digital Postgame Report

Required after every game. Report final score, attendance, warnings, incidents, injuries, ejections, field issues, and general notes.

Physical Umpire Card

Required after every game. Submit the completed card to the black mail safe/drop box inside the concession stand.

Pay Protection Reminder

No digital report = no pay until resolved. No physical card = no pay until resolved. Both are required.

Availability Blocks

Availability must be entered three days before each pay period begins. Block = busy/unavailable. No block = available.

Assignment Confirmation

Assignments must be accepted or declined within 24 hours. Failure to respond may result in auto-reject and reassignment.

Training & Development

Pack the Park / Path to Power

PYA’s local field-training, evaluation, and volunteer development system for live-game experience and mentor feedback.

Mentorship

Mentorship is required for the first two years of umpiring. Mentors support rule knowledge, confidence, positioning, and professionalism.

Evaluations

Evaluations are mandatory and may affect placement, advancement, scheduling, training needs, and pay review eligibility.
