Locations & Travel
Depending on your team’s ranking level, teams are typically scheduled
6 home games
in Pacific and
6 away games
.
If you play another Pacific team, you may have additional games played in Pacific.
PYA teams compete with STLWEST parks including
Eureka, Baldwin, Ellisville, Pond,
and
Valley Park
.
Competition Levels (Self-Ranking)
STLWEST provides multiple levels of competition. Teams should
rank themselves
before the season based on their current roster and experience level.
Gold – AAA
(if offered for the age division)
Blue – AA
Red – A
White – Recreational
Fair Play
It’s important to rank honestly from season to season. Park coordinators and the STLWEST commissioner may vet divisions to help ensure competitive balance.
Scheduling Notes
Teams are typically scheduled
12 league games
(6 home / 6 away).
Gold level
teams are typically scheduled
10 games
.
Gold and Blue
teams may be scheduled primarily
Monday–Thursday
to support weekend tournament play.
Uniforms
Teams are responsible for providing their own uniforms.
Need a suggestion? Many local teams use
Rockwood Litho
for jerseys and spirit wear.
Roster Numbers
Roster minimums and maximums vary by division and follow
STLWEST rules
. If you have questions for your specific age level, we’ll help you confirm the correct roster range.
Rules, Safety & Expectations

August Birthday Placement Requests
If your player has an
August birthday
and you would like them to stay with their
school-aged peers
, please submit a placement request using the form below.
Submit Age Placement Request
Age Verification & August Birthday Placement
To ensure accurate age placement for all players, PYA requires
one-time age verification
for youth softball participants. Families may upload one of the following:
• Birth certificate
• State-issued ID
• Passport
Once a player’s age is verified, this documentation will not need to be submitted again for future seasons.
Why are softball age cutoffs different than baseball?
Softball uses a
September 1 cutoff
and is often aligned to
school-year peers
. This is why softball age groupings can look different than baseball.
Quick FAQ
My child has an August birthday. Can they stay with their school peers?
Yes. If your player has an
August birthday
and you would like them to stay with their
school-aged peers
, please submit the placement request form above.
Why do softball divisions skip numbers (7U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U)?
Softball divisions are commonly grouped as
10U (9U+10U)
,
12U (11U+12U)
, and
14U (13U+14U)
, which is why you won’t see separate 9U/11U/13U divisions on the league side.
Do tournaments follow the same age rules?
League play follows STLWEST softball divisions and age cutoffs. Tournaments may use their own rules, so always check the tournament listing to confirm eligibility.
If a player’s situation is unusual (held back / moved up / paperwork questions), contact PYA and we’ll help you confirm the correct placement.
Helpful Reminder
Youth Softball is structured differently than Training League. If you’re unsure whether you should register as a team or an individual, choose the option that best fits your situation — we can help sort it out.
