Role Definition

PYA Park Superintendent

The Park Superintendent oversees the condition, readiness, and upkeep of PYA park facilities. This role focuses on field quality, maintenance coordination, safety, and operational readiness so games and events can run smoothly in a clean, safe environment.
Purpose of the Role
The Park Superintendent ensures PYA fields and facilities are maintained to support safe, high-quality play. The goal is predictable readiness for practices, games, and tournaments through organized maintenance, clear issue reporting, and consistent standards.
Primary Responsibilities
1) Field Maintenance & Quality Standards
  • Coordinates routine field maintenance (dragging, lining, mound/plate areas, baselines, etc.)
  • Promotes consistent field standards across all PYA fields
  • Helps ensure fields are game-ready for scheduled play
2) Facility Readiness & Operations Support
  • Supports readiness of shared spaces (restrooms, walkways, trash, seating areas, etc.)
  • Coordinates with concessions/operations leads when event load increases
  • Helps maintain a clean, safe environment for families and players
3) Equipment, Tools & Supplies (Park)
  • Helps manage park maintenance tools and supplies (chalk, conditioner, field dry, etc.)
  • Coordinates repair needs and replacement planning through board-approved processes
  • Promotes secure, organized storage of maintenance items
4) Safety & Hazard Reporting
  • Flags hazards and facility issues (holes, fencing, lighting, trip hazards, etc.)
  • Coordinates with Safety Coordinator and board leadership when safety risk is present
  • Supports quick response pathways for urgent issues
5) Weather Response & Field Status Support
  • Supports evaluation of field conditions after weather events
  • Coordinates readiness timelines with scheduling/operations leads (as applicable)
  • Helps prioritize work to reopen fields safely and efficiently
6) Volunteer Workdays & Maintenance Coordination
  • Helps plan volunteer workdays and maintenance priorities (when approved/assigned)
  • Coordinates task lists, needed supplies, and leadership for work sessions
  • Promotes consistency so improvements are sustained, not one-time fixes
Role Boundaries
The Park Superintendent does not set board policy, approve spending alone, or make unilateral decisions on cancellations, refunds, or league operations. Major purchases and budget decisions follow Treasurer/board approvals. Scheduling decisions belong to scheduling leadership; the Park Superintendent provides field-status input and maintenance coordination to support safe play.
