Locations
  • Games are played on the T-Ball fields or Field 3.
  • If there are fewer than 4 teams per division, we may combine with other STL West parks.
Roster Rules
  • 4U & 5U: 8 minimum / 10 maximum
  • 6U: 10 minimum / 12 maximum
  • Roster flexibility: We will never exclude a child due to roster numbers. Teams may carry one fewer or one additional player as needed to ensure every child has the opportunity to play.
Baseball & Softball Team Structure
  • Boys and girls are separated by sport in the Training League.
  • Girls may choose to play on a baseball (boys) team if desired.
  • Boys may not join softball teams.
Pitching & Hitting
  • 4U: T-Ball only
  • 5U: Coach pitch — 5 pitches, then tee
  • 6U: Pitching machine (coach pitch allowed as needed) — 5 pitches
Field Dimensions
  • Pitching distance: 28 ft (4U–5U), 32 ft (6U)
  • Base distance: 40 ft
Gameplay Rules
  • All players bat and everyone plays each inning.
  • Defensive alignment: one player per infield position; remaining players in the outfield.
  • No on-deck batters.
  • Helmets required for all batters and runners.
  • Game balls: PYA-issued balls only; each team provides one new ball per game.
Catching & Safety
  • No catchers in 4U and 5U.
  • 6U: Catchers are not required. Because 6U uses a softer training ball, coaches may choose to introduce the catcher position for safety and skill development.
  • If used, catchers must wear full catcher’s gear and be overseen by a safety coach.
  • Catcher use is not required to be unanimous during a game ,one team may use a catcher while the other does not.
Awards
  • All players receive a trophy or award at the end of the season.
Scheduling Note
We schedule up to 12 games when possible. If additional games need to be added, coaches may choose to reschedule, but they are not required to.
